About

Sylvain Pronovost received his B.A. and M.A. in Philosophy from Université du Québec à Montréal, in 1999 and 2005 respectively. He also briefly studied cognitive science and neuroscience at McGill University during 2001-2002. Since 2005, Sylvain has been enrolled in a doctoral degree in cognitive science at the Institute of Cognitive Science, at Carleton University, the only such program in Canada. He expects to complete the degree in 2012. Sylvain is experienced in fundamental research in cognitive psychology, cognitive modeling and neuroscience. He has applied this knowledge as well as gained more breadth of experience in the area of applied research in human factors and ergonomics, via the V-SIM laboratory (Centre for Advanced Studies in Visualization, Simulation and Modeling) at Carleton University, and through CAE Professional Services.

Sylvain has worked in a variety of research environments in order to meet the requirements of a truly interdisciplinary academic programme, from theoretical issues about cognition, to experimental psychology and neuroscience, as well as the analysis and development of computational models of behavior and cognition. His most recent topic of interest is the possible contribution of artificial intelligence models and techniques towards modeling virtual agents in synthetic environments. He has worked in a variety of human factors projects for the military, industry, and academia at CAE Professional Services between 2007 and 2012.
